Wednesday Hodgepodge

This summer has not only been HOT, but busy, too! Hence the reason I haven't been blogging much lately. I just can't seem to find or make the time to pull all of my thoughts together. However, I didn't want to let another week slip by. If you'd like to join ,too, just answer the questions on your own blog and link up.

1.  On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate your summer so far? Why? (1=eh; 10=best summer ever).  Hmm...I'm happy to report that my summer up to this point has been about a 7. Now, if I could remove the heat factor, I'd probably bump it up to an 8. I gave it a 7 because it's been fairly laid back with no real agenda to follow.

2.  July 26th is National Aunts and Uncles Day. Did you have any aunts and uncles growing up? Were you especially close to any one of them or maybe all of them? Are you an aunt (or uncle for the men who join here on Wednesdays)? Share a favorite memory relating to one of your own aunts and uncles or relating to a niece of nephew who call you aunt (or uncle).  Growing up, I had seven aunts and uncles on my dad's side of the family and two aunts and two uncles on my mom's side (not including their spouses).  Yes, I was close to most of my aunts and uncles. I am an aunt...I have four nephews, two great-nephews, and three great-nieces (one passed away from an accident). My mom and her sister, Janie, were very close. She has two daughters; one is my age. Each time we'd visit them, I'd spend the night with my cousin, Cindy, and my Aunt Janie would make it such a fun time for us with movies, popcorn, and lots of laughter.

3.  What's your favorite food dipped in chocolate? What's your favorite food dipped in cheese? I'm going with strawberries. Brittany brought some chocolate-dipped strawberries to Chris for Father's Day...best I have ever had! One of her coworkers made them and they were out of this world! The flavor was Snickers if that tells you anything. My favorite food dipped in cheese would have to be tortilla chips. I'm pretty simple.

4.  When were you last astonished by something? Explain.  On Monday night when I attended the Celebrate Recovery meeting at our church. I attend because it's the precursor to the HOPE class I'm in for parents of prodigals. I always come away from it feeling so blessed. There was a young woman who received her nine-year birthday chip. She spoke about how God had changed her life in the nine years she'd been attending Celebrate Recovery. She said she used to self-mutilate and when she walked through the doors of our church nine years ago, she had taken 100 pills and they had to call 911. An ambulance came and rushed her to the hospital where they saved her life. She said if it hadn't been for Celebrate Recovery and God's AMAZING GRACE, she isn't sure she'd still be alive. It was awesome in every way!

5.  Surf board, paddle board, ironing board, Pinterest board, scoreboard, clip board, bulletin board...which board have you most recently encountered? An ironing board...Chris keeps me pretty busy with his work pants and dress shirts that need ironing. I'm one of those odd people who loves to iron...I find it to be relaxing.

6.  What's your favorite story from Scripture? Why that story? No question about it...the story of the Prodigal Son. It's my favorite story because I can relate so well to having a prodigal child who has wandered away and returned home. It's a story about unconditional and forgiving love that only happens through God's grace.

7.  If you were to travel from the east coast to the west coast in your own country, which five cities would you most want to see?  I love to travel and there are so many places I want to visit. Here are a few of them: Bar Harbor, Maine-Helena, Montana-Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Moab, Utah-Sedona, Arizona (been there several times and I can never get enough of it).

8.  Insert your own random thought here.  The girls, Chris, and I are heading for the hills for a week on Sunday...literally. We've rented a mountain cabin in Blue Ridge, GA. We're going horseback riding, white water rafting, hiking, etc. I am beyond excited to get away from the rat race and just enjoy quality time with the three people I love most in this world. We so need that time to reconnect. Let the memory-making begin!

See you when we return!
