It's Wednesday, which means it's time for one of my favorite things, Hodgepodge! Won't you consider joining in with us? All you have to do is answer the questions on your own blog and link up by clicking on the button.
1. Many families have a story they love to tell every year around a holiday. Does your family have one? Are you the star of that story, or does another family member take center stage? Share your story if you want. Yes, and I'm the star of it. I am the youngest child in my family. I lost one brother who was ten years older than me and I have one surviving brother who is almost twelve years my senior. We used to travel to see our grandparents over Christmas. I must have been around four or five years old this particular Christmas. We had just returned from our visit and I knew that Santa was going to come. So, my mom put me in the tub for a bath. Little did I know, of course, that my brothers were up to something because I heard bells ringing in our small living room and the announcement was made that Santa had just been there. Though I have no actual memory of it myself, I've been told that I jumped out of the tub, naked as a jaybird, and ran to the living room and began opening my presents. Modesty, apparently, flew right out the door. Another quick story I remember happened around the same time. My brothers made plans for one of their friends to dress up like Santa to surprise me. So, one day, they took me by the hands and we walked over to Andy's house. He was all decked out in a red suit and white beard. They said I took one look at him and without hesitation said, 'Hey, Andy!' There was no fooling little sis!
2. Are you afraid to speak your own opinion? I think it all depends on the situation and who's involved. I'm able to speak my mind pretty freely with those who know me well because I know they'll continue to love me, regardless. However, I might be a bit more hesitant to speak my mind to someone I don't know well. I still recall an incident a few summers ago when we'd gone to Universal Studios in Orlando. We had gotten to the park early in the morning so we could be one of the first guests to enter the gate. As we were standing there, I saw a man and his wife walk around the side of the line as if they were going to break in front of us when the gates opened. Well, I wasn't about to have that. So, sure enough, as soon as the line began to move forward, the man and his wife tried to step in front of us. He was a tall man and I, being 4'11', tapped him on the shoulder. I informed him that we had been standing in line for about 20 mins. or so and that I'd seen him walk up and he wasn't about to break in front of us. He was quite rude back to me, but he promptly took his place in line. The girls and Chris couldn't believe that I said something to him, but I'm becoming bolder in my old age.
3. Pantone has announced the color of the year for 2016, and for the first time have chosen two shades-rose quartz and serenity. Hmm...did you know serenity was a color? It's essentially blending the warmth of rose quartz with the tranquility of a very soft shade of blue. So, what do you think? Are these colors I'd find in your home or wardrobe? Will you add something in these shades to either place in the new year? I had no idea that serenity was a color. I don't have any rose quartz or blue in my home, with the exception of The Citadel flag Chris has in his office. I do own a few pieces of clothing that are close to those colors, however. The jury's out as to whether I'll be adding any items to my home or wardrobe in rose quartz or serenity in 2016.
4. If you could be in a Christmas carol, which one would you choose and why? It would have to be 'The Little Drummer Boy'. Why? Because I've always wanted to learn how to play the drums and to be able to play for Baby Jesus would be such an honor.
5. December 9th is National Pastry Day. Will you celebrate? When did you last purchase something from a bakery? What's your favorite treat that falls under the heading of pastry? Do you make it yourself or buy from professionals? No plans to celebrate. The last time I purchased something from a bakery was probably over the summer. We have a local bakery that I love to visit because many of the employees have special needs and they do some of the baking and decorating. In fact, it's called Special Kneads. Great name, huh?

I love how they provide jobs to specials needs adults and give them the opportunity to earn a paycheck and become more independent. It puts a smile on my face every time I go in there. I'd have to say that my favorite pasty is a bear claw...YUM! I have never attempted to make one...I'll leave that to the pros!
6. When it comes to holiday decorating, ____________________. When it come to decorating, I enjoying when everything is up and looking pretty, but I sure hate the taking it down and putting everything away process.
7. When did you last laugh so much it hurt? Explain. I laugh about something every single day, but it's been a good while since I've laughed so hard it hurt. The last time that happened may very well have been when my high school friends surprised me for the weekend back in May. We sat up until the wee hours of the morning and even had our own dance party in our sunroom...it was EPIC!
8. Insert your own random thought here. I'm heading to Michael's this afternoon to gather up some crafting supplies for gifts I've decided to make for Chris and the girls. It's something I've been wanting to do for awhile. I'm certainly not the craftiest person on the planet, but I'm going to give it my best shot! If my plan turns out, I'll be sure to share it with you at a later date. Wish me luck!
