Chris and I enjoyed a date night on Friday night. We went to Bone Fish Grill. Have mercy, it was so good! I had the BBQ glazed pork chops and Chris had the tilapia. We had a macadamia nut brownie for dessert. Would you believe that little dandy had a whopping 1,100 calories? I'm hear to attest...it was well worth every gram of fat! Our weekend weather was absolutely GLORIOUS! I think we hit just above 80 degrees on Saturday. Chris and I decided to work out in the yard and get a few projects done that have been needing our attention.
Just look at my view from our back porch swing on Saturday. You have to agree, that's pretty much near perfection...
I've been going crazy the past couple of years over Knock Out Roses. I have them planted all over our back yard and along one of the beds that skirt along the side of our house. Aren't they so beautiful? And they're very easy to grow, too!
Here's the side bed I mentioned. Chris and I put down landscaping bricks and filled the bed with black mulch. It just makes everything look more organized. This weekend, we plan to do the front bed the same way...
After a productive day of working outside, we had the pleasure of enjoying this stunning sunset. That's one thing we never tire of seeing...
Now, I guess I should update on Abby. Well, I reached out to her online school advisor yesterday to find out when the graduation ceremony would be held and to ask if Abby is on track to graduate. She e-mailed me back and informed me that Abby is behind in her coursework. That isn't what I've been hearing for the past couple of weeks from Abby. From all indications, I had the impression that she would, in fact, be graduating in June. Her advisor told me that can still happen, Abby just has to kick things into high gear.
I called Abby, immediately...went straight to voice mail. Her advisor tried calling her, too...same thing happened. I sent her a text...no response. So, I got in my car and drove the almost 20 miles over to Austin's house to speak with her in person. She was the only one home. When she opened the door, she was visibly very upset with me. I must admit, that took me by surprise. I shared the information I'd learned from her advisor and how I couldn't understand how she wouldn't just be upfront with me. She refused to look at me and kept staring off. I told her that we have given our support and encouragement in an effort to get her motivated to earn her HS education. However, we can only do so much...99.9% must come from within her. I continued to let her know that, according to her advisor, if she doesn't complete her current classes by May 27th, she is looking at a whole other year before she can graduate because she'll have to repeat them. Her only other option is to get a GED. I said what I wanted to say and left to come home. Had it been any other time, I probably would have cried all the way back, but a sense of peace came over me that could only come from God. I let go of the worry and the angst knowing that God is in control of it all.
Later in the evening, Abby sent me a text asking if Chris and I would be up to meeting Austin's parents for dinner to 'discuss the future and to find out if we'd be willing to help out with anything.' I asked Abby to give me clearer specifics, but she only said they want to talk to us. Chris and I are reluctant to do so. He's had a meeting with his mom before, per her request, and it didn't go too well. I have a feeling that they want to ask us to support Abby and Austin so they can move into their own place. That will be a no-go. We'll support Abby IF she decides to come home and finish her education. Personally, I just don't see how anything positive can come from such a meeting.
Well, I'm off to get Bella picked up from the groomer. She was shaking like a leaf on a tree this morning when I dropped her off. Can't wait to see her new 'do'! She always smells so good!
Enjoy your day!
