What's Been Going On
Each week it seems that I'm telling myself THIS is the week I'm going to stick to my guns with blogging regularly. Has it been happening? Nope. It's as though every time I feel that things are beginning to settle down just a bit, something else pops up. So, I'll just do the best that I can and let the rest take care of itself.
Alright, I'm going to back up a tad and start with Friday. Chris and I went out to a nice restaurant for dinner that night. It's one we'd only be to once before. I ordered Hawaiian Teriyaki Chicken and Chris ordered salmon with mango sauce. Both entrees were so tasty! As we were finishing up our meals, I noticed a small box wrapped in silver paper sitting on the table between our plates. I didn't hesitate in asking Chris what it was all about. Then, he proceeded to tell me how much he loves me and how he knows I've been through some tough times this past year or so, and that he appreciates me and all I do for our family. That's when the tears began to well up in my eyes. I think that some times, we, as women, feel overlooked for what we do for those we love. We do what we do without asking for anything in return. In that moment, I was so touched by what Chris said to me that it's all that really mattered. I felt as though we were the only two people in the entire restaurant. He, then, handed me the box to open. Some of the waiters/waitresses were standing off to the side watching me. Talk about pressure! I unwrapped his gift and was so surprised to find a pair of diamond stud earrings! They are so beautiful! I can assure you that each and every time I wear them, I will be reminded of that night when Chris said what he did to me and made me feel so loved and cherished. He's simply the BEST!
Yesterday, Chris and I drove three hours to Columbia, SC. to attend the funeral for the dad of one of our closest friends, Russel. He was diagnosed recently with esophageal cancer and went downhill pretty quickly; he was 81 years old. The visitation and service lasted for two hours. As soon as it was over, we drove back home. Then, we took Abby to the Urgent Care Clinic. For the past three weeks or so, she's had what started out as a red spot on her leg that resembled a bug bite of some sort to having it spread to both legs. She has probably 20+ spots on her legs that ooze and are about the size of a penny. They do itch a little when they first appear. They seemed to improve for a little while, then got worse. So, I told Chris that she needed to be seen ASAP. I didn't feel very comfortable with the doctor who saw her as he spoke broken English, which made it difficult to communicate with him effectively. He looked at Abby's legs and, immediately, said she has impetigo. I told him we were concerned that it's MRSA (the flesh-eating bacteria). He said that it definitely wasn't because the wounds weren't deep enough. He put her on antibiotics and prednisone and said it might take awhile for the lesions to go away and that they are highly contagious. Well, this morning, I had to go to my dermatologist for my annual skin check. I think I hate it more than a Pap smear, but the good news is I got a clean bill of health. I've had basal cell carcinoma once before. Anyhow, I mentioned to him about Abby and how she was diagnosed with impetigo and the medication she was prescribed. I told him that the doctor said it isn't MRSA. He said that impetigo can, in fact, be caused by MRSA and that prednisone can make the infection worse. At his suggestion, I made an appointment for her to be seen this Friday as his office. I trust his professional opinion much more than the doctor at Urgent Care. I, personally, have never seen anything like it. Prayers are appreciated.
Poor Chris had to get back on the road last night after we went out to dinner following Abby's appointment. He had to drive up to Chattanooga for the night, then on to Nashville this morning for a meeting today. I don't know how he does what he does, but I so appreciate the sacrifices he makes for our family.
Brittany will move home on Friday afternoon. She's been busily packing up her apartment, though she won't, officially, move out until July 8th. It's a bittersweet time for her, but she's excited for this new chapter of working with adults and having her closer to home is an added bonus.
Say a prayer, if you will, for our girl, Maddie. She's our nearly 16 year old dachshund and here lately, she's slowed down a lot. Sleeping much more and doesn't get around well. Also, she's having a good number of accidents in the house. She's been such a blessing to our family and the thought of her not being around one day is tough to bear.
Thank you!
