It's a beautiful Wednesday here in the deep south! It only gets better with it being time for Hodgepodge. Want to join us? Simply answer the questions on your own blog, click on the button, and link up.
1. March is National Women's History Month. In that vein, who are three women who've been influential in your life? How so? 1.) My mom-She was the epitome of love, family, warmth, and Godliness. If I can become only half the woman she was, then I have done pretty well. 2.) One of my best friends, Marni-We met when I moved to Jessieville, AR. back in the 5th grade in 1975 and we've been friends ever since. She introduced herself to me on my first day of school and made me feel so welcomed. She's been my dear friend, 'sister', and confidante for 41 years. 3.) My Grandma Martin and my Granny Langston-They were my paternal and maternal grandmothers, respectively. They were two very different kinds of women. My Grandma Martin was a strong, robust women who was very dedicated to her faith in God, her family, and serving others. She was a true matriarch. My Granny Langston was a little spitfire who loved to debate about anything and everything. She was like a teenager trapped in a 90 year old body. She loved to watch soap operas, gossip, and was an avid fan of Arkansas Razorbacks basketball. I'm going to have to cheat here a bit and add my daughters to this list. They've given me reason to strive to be and to do my best each and every single day...and I love them dearly!
2. In what ways do you think women have it easier than men? I can only speak about my own situation. I, personally, don't carry the weight on my shoulders of having to provide for our family the way Chris does. I know it has to be stressful and I don't think I give him near enough credit, at times. However, what I do is maintain our household, prepare meals, and make our home a place where he can find rest and relaxation.
3. What do you need most right now: faith, love, hope or peace? I think I need peace more than anything else right now. As with everyone, there are things that weigh heavily on my heart and mind from time-to-time, such as the future of our country. Worry is too strong of a word because I have learned to turn so much over to God. However, I do become concerned about things over which I have absolutely no control.
4. Do you have a collection? If so, what do you collect and why? I have a few collections. I used to collect Emmett Kelly figurines and music boxes, but I don't, anymore. I'm not one who likes a bunch of clutter laying around, so I got to a point where I felt I had enough. Then, when my mom passed away, I inherited her hummingbird collection...
5. Plaids, checks, polka dots and stripes...your favorite? I'm a polka dot kind of gal. I have a couple of shirts that have polka dots on them and they always make me feel so feminine when I wear them.
6. In what ways are you the same as your childhood self? I'm still up for adventure and I love exploring nature. I can recall when I was a girl and I'd go walking in the deep woods for what felt like hours. I still enjoy time to myself, writing in journals (which I've kept since 5th grade), cracking jokes, and singing to the radio with the car windows rolled down.
7. You're a contestant on the TV game show 'Jeopardy'. What category will you ace? Definitely 'Classic Rock Songs from the 70's' or 'Pop Hits From the 80's'. If it were an option, I'm confident I could earn extra points by singing the songs by lyric. Yeah, I'm that good! :)
8. Insert your own random thought here. Folks, it's supposed to hit a whopping 76 degrees here today! Doing my 'Happy Dance'...how 'bout you?
