Wednesday Hodgepodge

Hey friends! I'm sure you've practically forgotten who I am as I've been terrible about blogging as of late. I spend a lot of time outdoors in the summer and plugging away at my job, too. Just a lot on my plate, as usual. If you want to join in, just answer the questions on your own blog and link up.

1.  On Saturday, July 4th, America celebrates her Independence. What is your favorite thing about the day? Your favorite food on the 4th? Do you fly a flag at your house? Fireworks-yay or nay? Any special plans this year? I love all the patriotism that surrounds the 4th of July. My favorite food on the 4th would have to be watermelon with corn on the cob being a close second. I don't fly a big flag at our house, but I do put smaller flags in my potted plants on our front porch steps. Yes, I love fireworks, but they terrify Bella. We will sometimes go to my mother-in-law's for the 4th. She lives on a lake in SC and has a big party. However, this year, I'm opting to stay home, though Chris is going. I'm just not up to it since we leave for vacation on Tues. morning. We've rented a mountain cabin for a week in NC and I'm so looking forward to it! I have so much to get done this weekend to make it all come together, though.

2.  What's something you recently got for free? Last night, Chris and I enjoyed dinner out with a gift card Brittany gave him for Father's Day...we didn't have to pay a dime and it was nice!

3.  The Statue of Liberty, the Liberty Bell, the Washington Monument, Mt. Rushmore...how many on the list have you seen?  What is your favorite historical monument and why? I've only visited the Washington Monument. My favorite historical monument would have to be the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, DC. There's just something so overwhelming about seeing all those names etched into that long wall of granite that takes my breath away.

4.  When it comes to news, are you more ostrich (stick my head in the sand) or hog (they have room to take a whole lot in)? How much attention have you given the recent news reports regarding ISIS and the acts of terror they've perpetuated on those who do not share their belief or support their cause? I think to a certain degree, I'm more of an ostrich. I think the reason being is I don't like to be dragged down by negativity of any sort. I haven't given much attention to all the news reports about ISIS. I know the threat is real, but I choose to look on the brighter side of life.

5.  We're talking plain ice cream...vanilla, strawberry, chocolate. Choose one.  That's a no-brainer...chocolate!

6.  Share a song you love containing the word 'star in the lyrics or title. The obvious choice...'Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star'. Takes me right back to childhood with my girls.

7.  Describe and/or say goodbye to June in an acrostic.

Jumping rope on the sidewalk,
Under the blazing sun,
No time to take a break,
Even for some lemonade.

8.  Insert your own random thought here. I find the current state of our country to be both sad and disturbing. particularly as a Christian. I feel we're in a position of not being able to voice our opinions or make our stance known for fear of being ostracized. Just as others have a right to make known how they feel about certain issues, I feel we have that same right, too. Christians seem to have lost their voice, though. We may not all agree, but can't we, as human beings, learn to respect one another?

Have a safe 4th, everyone! God Bless America!
