When Chris went to South Carolina a few weekends ago to redo his mom's garage, he came across an old wooden chest. It's one he'd seen in the garage before and had mentioned to his mom that he'd like to take and refinish. When he got home with it, it was filled with old tools that belonged to his dad and grandfather. I must be honest, I didn't see the possibility that Chris saw in it.
Chris worked diligently all weekend long on the chest. He stripped it, then sanded and stained it. The final step he took was to spray paint the skeleton key and handles antique gold. There is a date inscribed on the inside of the lid that leads to us believe the chest is well over 100 years old. How neat is that?
Here is the finished product...
As you can see, he added legs to it. We have it in our sunroom and are using it as a coffee table, if you will. I absolutely love how it turned out and I, especially, love the history behind it. He brought a smaller wooden chest home, too, that has a lot of potential, as well. Once he finishes with it, I'll be sure to post pictures of how it turned out.
Just goes to prove how outward appearances can be very deceiving until the real beauty is uncovered.
P.S. Has anyone else, by chance, encountered issues with Blogger not aligning your posts correctly? As you can see, my second paragraph isn't aligned like the first and last ones, but I can't seem to figure out how to fix it. If you have any suggestions, please send them my way...thanks!
