Hodgepodge Wednesday

Thrilled to be joining everyone for Hodgepodge on this rainy Wednesday! As always, if you'd like to join in, just answer the questions on your own blog and link up.

1.  What's surprised you most about your life, or about life, in general? That I might get knocked down from time-to-time, but I sure don't stay down long because I have an inner strength and peace that comes from my faith in God.

2.  Among others, these 10 words were added to the Oxford Dictionary this year...awesomeness, beer o' clock, brain fart, buttdial, cat cafe (apparently this a real thing), fat shame, fatberg, hangry, MX (gender neutral) and skippable. Your thoughts? In looking over the list, which word do you find most ridiculous? Which word would you never in a million years say out loud? Which word would you most likely use in a conversation? In my opinion, 'fatberg' is the most ridiculous and offensive word and definitely one I would never consider using under any circumstance. I have to admit that I use 'brain fart' fairly frequently. I know, I know. However, it's my go-to word when I simply can't think of what I want to say...'I'm having a brain fart.'  C'mon, you know you've had one from time-to-time! ;)

3.  Do you like gravy? Is there a food you'd rather not eat without gravy? Do you make your own or do you buy the canned or store-made variety? Turkey and gravy, sausage gravy, mashed potatoes and gravy, country ham and red-eye gravy, biscuits and chocolate gravy, pot roast and gravy...which on the list is your favorite?  I can live without gravy. However, my mom used to make the BEST sausage gravy you have ever put in your mouth, though. It was to-die-for over biscuits for breakfast. In fact, my brother used to refer to it as 'Arkansas Gold'. The only time I really make gravy is at Thanksgiving and I make it using a packet of McCormick's Turkey Gravy mix. It's just right for turkey and mashed potatoes. If I'm going to eat gravy, which is practically never, the only way I like it is on biscuits.

4.  Do you have a plan? Do you need a plan? Have you ever had a plan fall into a trillion pieces? Explain. 100% YES! I am not one to just fly by the seat of my britches. I want to know what's happening and when. I like to have all my ducks in a row, so to speak. When I don't have a plan, I get out of sorts. Like with next week, I have a plan on which day I plan to buy groceries and clean the house before Brittany and my in-laws arrive. Oh, I'm sure I've had many plans fall into a trillion pieces before, but what can you do? Just keep on truckin'!

5.  November 19 is National Play Monopoly Day. Do you own the original or some version of the game? Do you enjoy playing Monopoly? How likely is it that you'll play a game of Monopoly on the 19th? Ever been to Atlantic City? Ever taken a ride on a railroad? Is parking in your town free? Last thing you took a chance on?  We have the original version of Monopoly. I love playing games, but Monopoly isn't my favorite. It just takes too much time to finish, so I have no plans to play it on the 19th. I have never been to Atlantic City, but I have taken a ride on a railroad several times. The last thing I took a chance on would have to be purchasing items off ETSY to give as Christmas gifts...so far, so good!

6.  A song you like that has the word (or some form of the word) thanks in the title, lyrics or meaning. 'Thank You for Being a Friend' by Andrew Gold. It's the theme to 'Golden Girls', a show I used to enjoy watching with my mom and dad.

7.  In keeping with this month's theme of gratitude, what is something you're taking for granted and when you stop and think about it, you're grateful for?  I'd have to say the comforts of HOME...warmth, running water, electricity, food on my table, clean clothes on my back, and the love of my family. I'm, also, grateful that, for the most part,, I feel safe and secure, though in light of the recent terrorist attacks in Paris, that's starting to shift. Security is something I haven't thought much about, but am beginning to more and more all the time.

8.  Insert your own random thought here. Abby and I attended orientation at her college on Saturday. We had to report at 8:30 AM and she had to go to the session for students and I went to parent orientation. We were there until about 2:00 PM. It was a long day, but it was nice to see the campus and have some of our questions answered. First day will be January 11th and she's entering pre-nursing with her eyes set on becoming a labor/delivery nurse. Please pray that she'll work hard to reach her goal and realize that she can do anything she sets her mind to...ANYTHING, at all! Her journey is far from over!
