Thanksgiving 2016

Can you believe that Thanksgiving has come and gone? Hope you enjoyed your time with family and friends! We had a wonderful time together just the four of us. Abby and I were out shopping the day before and Brittany was due home that evening. She called me on my cell phone, which was a bit odd for her to do from work. She asked me what we were up to and that was about it. So, when Abby and I were browsing in an antique store, Brittany came up from behind me and poked me in the back. Caught me completely off-guard! She'd taken half a day off from work to come home early and surprise me.

Once we got home, it sure didn't take her long to get all settled in. She's always cold, like her mom, and stole a heavy blanket from our bed to get warm and cozy...

I got a lot of the meal preparation done the day before, but I still had a few things to do on Thanksgiving Day. The past several years, we've been buying a fully-cooked smoked turkey and they are delicious. Sure saves on the hassle of having to get up at 3 AM to pop a turkey in the oven. Chris was in charge of carving it...

We had turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans and bacon casserole (a new family favorite!), cornbread dressing, cranberry sauce, and homemade yeast rolls. I made an apple pie and 5-layer bars for dessert. You can sort of see in the photo, but my rolls had to be cut into squares because the dough spread out across the entire baking sheet. Oh, well, they still tasted great!

Here's the three people I love most in life...

With my girls...

They can never, and I mean NEVER, pass up an opportunity to create an awkward prom photo. Gotta love 'em...

This one's a little fuzzy because I had to grab my camera quickly, but I just love how they're both laughing. Sure puts a smile on my face...

After dinner, we sat down and place a round of 'Speak Out'...the game that uses mouth retractors. Players insert one in their mouth and try to get their partner to guess what they're reading off of cards. It is downright HILARIOUS! We were all in stitches! Luckily, I was the one taking the photos, so there are none of me with my mouth looking like a laughing donkey. Whew...dodged that bullet!

The day after Thanksgiving, the girls and I went out and did a little shopping. That night, we rented a couple of movies from Redbox and watched those in the basement.  Family time did this momma's heart a world of good. I'm pretty certain that Bella agrees...

Before Brittany left to head home, we decided to put up our tree so she could be part of decorating it. I think it turned out quite well...

Here's the nativity set Chris got for me when we were newly married. It's 27 years old and always brings back such warm memories for me and serves as a tender reminder of why we celebrate Christmas...

I look forward to visiting your blogs and to read about your Thanksgiving!  Christmas is coming soon...ready or not!
